I am hosting this show to benefit a family that is very dear to me. I have known The Thompson's since childhood. The newest member of their family, Casen Tyler Thompson, was born with a cleft lip and palate, hyperparathyroidism (low calcium due to a gland defect), ventricular septal defect (VSD, or holes in the heart), small rotated and low set ears with possible hearing problems, reflux while eating, and aspiration to the lungs due to reflux. A visit to the Duke University Hospital left Casen with a diagnosis of Complete Digeorge Anomaly, a condition that leaves him with no Thymus, and no T-cells (in other words, Casen has no immune system). He was later diagnosed with bronchomalacia as well. Casen is facing more challenges in his first months of life than many of us face in a lifetime. He has a host of surgeries ahead of him, including a Thymus Transplant, which is still considered "experimental." Since this surgery is experimental, their insurance will not cover it. Matt and Kaytee, along with Casen and their two older children, Cole and Kiley (who is horse crazy like we are!) have already had to spend weeks away from home at Duke University in North Carolina, and are now in Cincinatti at the Cincinatti Children's Hospital to address Casen's bronchomalacia. All proceeds from the Raffle at the Winter is Coming! Model Horse Show will be given directly to the Thompson family to help with expenses incurred from Casen's medical journey.
